Professional network
A European meeting place for drama therapists and related professionals. We help members find colleagues, partners and peer groups, and we keep the conversation going between events.
Performing arts and therapy · Berlin
The European Federation for Drama Therapy brings together practitioners, trainers and cultural partners who use drama, role and story to support people. We build the networks, standards of conversation and public programmes that make that work visible.
About us
Europäische Föderation für Dramatherapie e.V. (EFD e.V.) is a Berlin-based association for people who work where theatre and therapeutic practice meet. Our members and partners come from drama therapy, applied theatre, education, social work and the cultural sector.
Drama therapy uses dramatic processes such as role play, improvisation, storytelling and embodiment to help people explore experiences, build relationships and find new ways of acting. It is practised in many settings and in many languages across Europe. We exist to help those practices learn from each other.
Our work is organised around three commitments. We create space for professional exchange across borders. We support careful, well-reflected training and continuing education. And we open the conversation to the public, so that audiences, institutions and funders understand what drama therapy is and what it is not.
Meetings and working groups that connect practitioners across countries and disciplines.
Shared questions about ethics, supervision, methods and quality in practice.
Clear public information and cultural events that welcome newcomers.
What we do
From professional gatherings to public stage events, our programme is shaped by the needs of the people who practise and the people they work with.
A European meeting place for drama therapists and related professionals. We help members find colleagues, partners and peer groups, and we keep the conversation going between events.
Seminars, practice labs and masterclasses on methods such as role work, embodiment and storytelling, led by experienced practitioners and open to different levels of experience.
Reading circles, case discussions and symposia that connect research with everyday practice, and that make evidence and experience easier to share across languages.
Open discussion of professional standards, supervision, confidentiality and responsible practice, developed together with members instead of handed down.
Performances, readings and open sessions in Berlin that bring the arts side of drama therapy to wider audiences and introduce the field in an accessible way.
Conversations with cultural institutions, schools, care organisations and funders who want to understand how drama-based methods can support their work.
